The short version
Do I need a monthly plan?
- Only if you have a store. A brochure site doesn't need one: the first year of hosting and your domain are included in the build, then it's $180 a year, or included with any care plan. We warranty it for 60 days and make your updates when you send them. A store has payments, apps, and updates that need looking after every month.
Who owns my website and accounts?
- Your domain, your words and your photos are yours from day one, and a store's Shopify and payment accounts are set up in your name and paid by you. We host brochure sites and keep them running. If you ever leave, we transfer the domain and hand over your content and images.
How long does a build take?
- A five-page brochure site is usually three to four weeks. An online store is closer to six to eight, depending on how quickly photos, product details, and approvals come together.
What happens if my site goes down?
- We're monitoring it, so we usually know before you do, and we start work straight away. Emergencies like a site being down or checkout breaking are defined in writing and handled ahead of everything else.
How do I update the site?
- Send us what to change — a new photo, new hours, a service you've added — and we make it for you. Every build includes a walkthrough at launch of how that works, and small changes are quick.
Pricing
What does a website cost?
- A five-page brochure site starts at $2,500. An online store with up to 50 products starts at $6,000. Larger catalogs, booking and integrations are Custom builds from $12,000. Every project is scoped with you, in writing, before we start.
Is there a monthly fee?
- Only if you want a care plan, and only a store needs one. Essentials is from $150/mo, Growth from $400/mo and Partner from $1,000/mo, and every plan includes hosting and domain renewals. Care plans have a 12-month term from launch, billed monthly. After the first 12 months they continue month to month, and you can cancel with 30 days' notice. Prepay the first year and save 10%. Without a plan, a brochure site's first year of hosting and domain are included in the build, then it's $180 a year.
When do I pay?
- Builds are half at kickoff and half at launch. Care plans are billed monthly from launch.
What costs extra?
- Work beyond the written scope is $150 an hour, quoted before we start. After the first year, hosting and the domain are $180 a year for a site without a care plan; premium domains (registry price over $50 a year) are billed at cost on top. You pay your own Shopify and payment processing fees directly. A Google Workspace inbox is a one-time $125 setup; a forwarding address is free where the domain allows it.
Timeline
How long does an online store take?
- Six to eight weeks from kickoff: discovery and a product list, a design you approve, the build and a test order end to end, then launch with a walkthrough.
What slows a build down?
- Almost always photos, product details and approvals. The build itself is quick; the weeks go on gathering what the pages say. We send a short list at kickoff so you can start early.
Can you work with my existing domain?
- Yes. We point it at the new site at launch, keep it registered in your name, and nothing about your email changes unless you ask it to.
Ownership
What happens if I leave?
- Your domain, your words and photos, and for stores your Shopify and payment accounts, all go with you. We transfer the domain and hand over your content and images, so another developer can pick it up.
What is the site built on?
- Standard, widely used tools: Shopify for stores, Stripe for payments, and a fast, modern site on our hosting for brochure pages. Nothing one-off, and your words and photos are yours to take anywhere.
Who owns the photos and the words?
- You do. Anything we write or arrange for your site is yours to keep and reuse, on the site or anywhere else.
After launch
What happens after launch?
- A walkthrough of how to send us changes, 60 days of bug fixes on us for a brochure site, and the care plan switched on for a store. Your first year of hosting and domain are included; after that it's $180 a year, or included with a care plan. From then on you send changes, we make them, and a monthly report shows the site is online and working.
How fast do you respond?
- Standard requests get an answer the next business day. Emergencies, a site down or a checkout broken, are defined in writing and handled first.
Can I add a care plan later?
- Yes. A brochure site can start without one and add Essentials whenever updates become a monthly thing. A store starts with one on launch day.
